Vermont Fall Wedding: Rachel & Chris at The Ponds at Bolton Valley
Fall may be my favorite season. I grew up in the northeast and there was rarely an autumn that passed without leaving me with some mystical feeling of wonder and awe. I feel lucky to be able work outdoors and experience the joy of this season while creating an artful record of the celebration of life! This last October Rachel & Chris got married at the Ponds at Bolton Valley, which is managed and catered by The Essex Resort and Spa. The Ponds is an amazing place as you can see below. It overlooks a beautiful pond, rolling hills, and Camel’s Hump mountain off on the horizon. The family and friends that surrounded these two were merry, warm and all too easy to photograph! They couldn’t stop smiling, and as a result this wedding is one of my favorites from last season. As a photographer working year round, I so look forward to my fall weddings! It can be a gamble with Vermont weather being what it is this time of year, but it’s well worth the risk!

Beautifully simple details, matched the season and the day so well.
Such simple & thoughtful decor made the ceremony site warm and welcoming.
Not only was Rachel an incredibly gorgeous bride, but she was so relaxed and at ease while being photographed. A joy to capture.
Here is that famed Vermont landscape in the fall! A proud father in the foreground.
The front yard at the Ponds faces southwest, and so we get that striking evening light during ceremony time..dropping a rim of golden shine everywhere!
My favorite moment of any wedding; the “we just got hitched!” smile.
Having a moment just after the ceremony.
Waiting for family to gather for formals, Rachel planted this beauty on Chris’s cheek. Such a great moment.
Rachel and Chris are fun and creative people and they thought of this running shot. Everyone looks so happy here I can’t get over it.
And of course,….a monster shot. This was really fun to make and Rachel herself “chose the form of their destruction.”
We steeped out for a few minutes around sunset to get some of that stunning light.
Don’t be afraid to grab a few artsy shots when photographing any celebration! This is one of those rare times you can put your subject out of focus and still make a connection with the image.
Love stories should be told from all perspectives. Rachel and Chris didn’t mind me getting up close and personal in this shot. The close, intimate composition makes an impact.
The Interior of the Ponds is a gorgeous room, with natural textures and warm lighting everywhere.
It’s always fun to snap a nighttime shot outdoors during the reception. Sometimes you have to accept a somewhat grainy image as this one is, but it’s still stunning to see how these amazing venues look at night!
